Sometimes change in SoHo is more of the same. Recently, long-time SoHo shopping center Broadway Market Co. moved from their location at the corner of Broadway and Howard Street further north in the district in the former Stance location at 510 Broadway (the history of the building was discussed in a previous post). Broadway Market Co. has always provided a platform for indie artists, designers, and makers to showcase and sell their wares; recently, Broadway Market opened another store in the district, UNFASHIONAL, that continues their independent approach towards fashion and retail. We here at Initiative are happy to know that Broadway Market will be remain an integral part of SoHo’s unique retail character.

The wake of the pandemic has left many parts of the city and country with closed stores and higher retail vacancies—SoHo has been no exception. However, one bright spot can be found in what was a long-vacant space at 600 Broadway, where Joyce Leslie has opened a new location. A subsidiary of the Rainbow Shops, Joyce Leslie, like many of the stores associated with the parent company, specializes in affordable apparel. Always keeping up with the top styles, we here at SoHo Broadway Initiative are happy to welcome Joyce Leslie to our district!

SoHo has seen its fair share of pop-ups and now the most well-known of them is opening up once again on Broadway. Spirit Halloween has been operating seasonal Halloween outlet stores since 1983. Open from late August to early November, Spirit is the largest Halloween store in the country, operating over 1,300 stores in all 50 states and Canada. This year they are moving to a larger location in the district, the space formerly occupied by Top Shop.
Spirit Halloween isn’t just the nation’s premier outlet for all things Halloween, but they also have a charitable side to their operations. Established in 2006, their charity Spirit of Children raises money through in-store and vendor donations to support the child life departments of hospitals across the U.S. and Canada. With their commitment to the well-being of children, shopping here becomes an even greater treat when stocking up on holiday tricks. We here at SoHo Broadway are big fans of Halloween and are excited to have the Spirit Halloween store help make the district “So Much Fun It’s Scary!”

At the southwest corner of Broadway and Spring Street a building has been under renovation for some time—the district’s JP Morgan Chase bank. After many months of work, the branch has finally reopened, providing the area once again with a location for Chase banking, a Chase ATM, and other services associated with an account through this company.
