In November, Fareen Islam joined the SoHo Broadway Initiative as Program Manager. The Initiative is excited to have Fareen join the team and to introduce her to the SoHo Broadway community.
Fareen Islam was born in Queens, NY, attended Pratt Institute and Stony Brook University, and currently lives on Long Island. In May of 2017, Fareen graduated with a Masters’s degree in Urban Placemaking and Management at the Pratt Institute, where she is a member of the program’s very first cohort.
5 Questions with Fareen Islam:
SBI: When did you start working/volunteering with the SoHo Broadway Initiative?
FI: I started working at the Initiative as Program Manager in November 2017. What made me interested in working at the Initiative was the opportunity to contribute my passion for local civic engagement to a part of NYC that I, like many New Yorkers, find familiar and so special.
SBI: Outside of work, what are your interests and activities?
FI: I like to walk the streets of New York and discover happenings related to art, music, sustainability, food or anything else that the city and its people have to offer.
SBI: What is the best part of the next thing you’re doing?
FI: Immersing myself and discovering new challenges and opportunities that are particular to SoHo, it’s people, and the links that tie them together.
SBI: What is your favorite hang-out spot in the SoHo/Downtown area?
FI: My favorite hang-out in SoHo is the perimeter of Vesuvio Playground, though, upon recent discovery my new favorite may be the Elizabeth Street Garden.
SBI: What is your preferred mode of transportation in NYC?
FI: I prefer to walk along sidewalks and in streets, but if facing a time-crunch, subway is the way to go.
