The NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) is proposing a comprehensive redesign of Canal Street in Manhattan. The redesign aims to make the corridor safer for all road users by enhancing pedestrian safety, expanding the bicycle network, creating open space, and calming traffic. As reported in August, Phase 1 of this project now comprises Canal Street (west of Broadway) and Grand Street. In July, DOT published an updated proposal for Phase 1 which was also presented to Community Boards 1 and 2. Read the Phase 1 proposal here.
Community Board 2 has announced that DOT will present about the proposed Grand Street two-way bike lane portion of Phase 1 at the Board’s Traffic & Transportation Committee meeting on Wednesday, October 21st at 6:30 p.m. at P.S. 130 (143 Baxter Street) and via Zoom. Note, this is a new date and location for this meeting than was originally announced.
Visit CB2’s website for more information on how to join the meeting, the full meeting agenda, and to view DOT’s response to CB2’s July resolution regarding Grand Street.
