SoHo Broadway Initiative 6th Annual Meeting Wrap-Up

SoHo Broadway Events: A yearly tradition in a virtual setting

On Tuesday, June 16th, SoHo Broadway Initiative held its annual meeting, reflecting on the past year of activities, accomplishments, and challenges. However, due to the pandemic, this year’s meeting was a little different: instead of meeting and mingling at a venue in the district, participants and panelists spoke, voted, and asked questions all from the comfort of their own homes. In order to comply with the New York State PAUSE order, the annual meeting was was held over Zoom. Panelists consisting of the SoHo Broadway board and staff gave speeches and updates, while attendees were provided an online link for voting and posted questions through a web forum.

Board President Brian Steinwurtzel began the meeting with opening remarks. Secretary Paul Farr conducted Board elections; all slates were approved by membership in a nearly-unanimous vote. The Initiative congratulates Richard Benenson, John Pasquale, Gaston Silva, Margaret Baisley, Paul Farr, Emily Hellstrom, James Cavello, and Sharon Ermilio on their re-election. Executive Director Mark Dicus followed with a financial report prepared by Treasurer Richard Benenson.

Clean Team Supervisor Lance Marsh gave an overview of the work of the Clean Team, especially since the beginning of the pandemic. Mark Dicus followed with a review of the Initiative’s activities in public safety, community development, and planning over the past year, with a special focus on the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, civil unrest, and the reopening of the economy, as well as sharing the Initiative’s commitment to social justice. The evening ended with a Q&A session and closing remarks by Vice President Emily Hellstrom.

Our first online Annual Meeting was a success: approximately 80 members and guests were in attendance. We hope to see everyone again in person at our 7th Annual meeting in 2021!
