We’re excited to announce that Rebecca Odell, the SoHo Broadway Initiative’s Community Engagement and Planning Intern for the past 14 months, has graduated from the Master of Urban Planning Program at Hunter College and has moved on into a full-time role at the New York City Department of Transportation. While we are sad to see her leave our team, the Initiative extends Becca a hearty congratulations on graduation, a big thank you for all of her work here, and best wishes in her professional career going forward! We briefly chatted with Becca about her time here on her way out.

What was you favorite part of working at the SoHo Broadway Initiative?
Definitely the people! It has been so wonderful getting to learn about SoHo and BIDs from such an incredibly supportive team. Shout-out to Erin, Brandon, and Bryan!
Do you have any favorite projects you worked on during your time here?
I really enjoyed working on trash containerization. I got to utilize a variety of skills — field data collection, research, and map-making. Plus, it is a project I got to see implemented, which is very rare in planning! Seeing the containers in SoHo makes me feel proud that I could play a role in making our streets cleaner.
What are your favorite spots in the neighborhood?
I go to Blick all the time. It is my go-to spot for gifts for artists in my life. It was a lifesaver when a friend and I were coming up on a deadline for an art show and needed more embroidery floss that night. If I couldn’t easily swing by Blick, we might not have finished in time!
What are your next steps in your career?
I will be working in the Office of Curb Management at the New York City Department of Transportation. I’m excited to explore projects that improve safety and make curbs work better for all users.
