Are you interested in composting in SoHo Broadway?
In September 2018, the Initiative launched a permanent compost program for residents along SoHo Broadway through a New York Compost Box placed at Broadway and Spring. Since the program’s inception, SoHo Broadway residents have diverted over 1 ton of compostable material from landfills.
The Initiative is expanding the compost program to add residents from the waiting list by launching a second compost drop-off location.

The Initiative’s compost program is a collaboration between Common Ground Compost and Reclaimed Organics to give residents in parts of the City that aren’t part of DSNY’s composting program an opportunity to compost and help the City reach its zero waste goals.
The City of New York sends four million tons of trash to landfills every year; almost a third of it being food waste. The New York Compost Box Project repurposes decommissioned newspaper vending racks into receptacles for compostable materials, offering New Yorkers a convenient way to divert food waste from landfills.
