Black Wall Street Gallery, originating from Tulsa, Oklahoma, opened up on Mercer Street in late May after leaving their Canal Street location. The gallery’s primary mission is to directly address the history of Black Wall Street, a haven for Black entrepreneurship and wealth-building opportunity prior to its destruction during the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921.
Its most recent exhibition on display, 21 Piece Salute, commemorated the lives lost in the 1921 Massacre by promoting the legacies and talent of Black artists around the world. Art was on display from 21 international Black artists from May 27th to June 27th. Read the full press release from Black Wall Street Gallery here.
Recently, Black Wall Street Gallery was vandalized on three separate occasions. We stand in solidarity with the gallery and its artists and denounce the hatred and vandalization that occurred in early June.
