Friday afternoon, Congress passed the CARES Act, which represents more than $376 billion in relief for struggling small businesses, including $349 billion for forgivable loans to small businesses to pay employees and keep them on the payroll, $17 billion in debt relief for current and new SBA borrowers, and $10 billion in immediate disaster grants. This is in addition to direct payments to Americans, an aggressive expansion of unemployment insurance and billions in aid to hospitals and state and local governments. We have updated our business resources page with further information on the CARES Act’s federal Small Business Administration programs.
Most Initiative staff remain working from home, although we continue to open the office daily in support of our essential supplemental sanitation and public safety services while maintaining open lines of communication with our City service partners at DSNY and NYPD. The best way to reach staff is via email (staff email addresses are linked here), though you can also call us on our office phone numbers which are linked to our mobile phones.
The Clean Team continues to empty trash receptacles, pick up litter, remove graffiti, sanitize receptacles and serve as eyes/ears within the SoHo Broadway district.
For the near term, the Initiative will not be holding in-person public or internal gatherings.
