Street Vending Enforcement Roundtable Wrap-Up

SoHo Broadway Events: Thanks to all who participated in the Initiative’s online session regarding this ongoing district issue

On Thursday, October 23rd, the SoHo Broadway Initiative hosted a roundtable via Zoom with key agencies and elected officials’ offices to educate the community and discuss the challenges presented in regard to street vending enforcement in the SoHo Broadway district. Initiative staff shared our organization’s challenges and successes and offered an opportunity for representatives of City agencies and the offices of elected officials to answer questions submitted by stakeholders.

Approximately 150 attendees joined the webinar; this strong turnout and the large number of questions submitted are evidence that unlawful vending activity is a key concern of many in the community. We thank our partners from the Office of District Attorney Alvin Bragg, the Office of Council Member Christopher Marte, Manhattan Community Board 2, the New York City Department of Sanitation, the NYPD’s 1st Precinct, and the Office of Assembly Member Deborah Glick for their contributions to the conversation.

Minutes from the Roundtable including the Q&A can be found here for your reference. As mentioned during the meeting, we have also developed a handy guide for stakeholders as a reference in understanding street vending rules and how to report unlawful activity.

We look forward to continuing to work together with all of you in making progress in ensuring the SoHo Broadway corridor’s sidewalks are safe and comfortable for all who live in, do business in, or visit the district, and will continue our best efforts in moving the needle on this challenging issue.
