On Tuesday, August 26th, the SoHo Broadway Initiative was pleased to partner with our neighbors at the NoHo Business Improvement District to host a group of staff from the New York City Department of Small Business Services Neighborhood Development Division (SBS NDD) for to learn more about (and and take a walking tour of) our respective districts. SBS NDD works with community-based organizations such as BIDs to build vibrant neighborhoods where New Yorkers can shop, work, and live.
Initiative staff gave an overview of our organization, district and neighborhood history, and unique assets, opportunities, and challenges that characterize the SoHo Broadway community. Following an introductory session, we engaged on walking tour with the NDD team giving a first-hand view of our efforts at waste containerization, the challenges of sidewalk congestion, sidewalk activity such as counterfeit sales, line management, and improperly located vending, curb lane usage, vehicular congestion, and the district’s varying retail character among many other topics.
