What brought you to SoHo Broadway? What do you do here?
I am the CEO and Cofounder of the fitness brand Physique 57. We opened our first studio in NYC on 57th Street in 2006 then our second studio in SoHo in 2007. Believe it or not, at that time there were very few, if any, fitness studios in SoHo. Tribeca was just then becoming residential, so people were very excited when we opened our doors! We saw the potential in SoHo before it became the fitness hub it is today, and I’m proud that we’ve been part of this community’s evolution for nearly two decades.
What does your organization/company do, what industry are you in?
Physique 57 is a barre fitness and media company that has many studios in the NYC area plus locations abroad. We also have a digital platform with 500+ workout videos and live classes. We specialize in barre, Pilates and strength training group exercise classes. The best benefit of Physique 57 is that our clients see visible results in as few as 8 classes. Our clients feel stronger, trim inches, and improve energy levels. We blend heavier weights, signature barre moves, smart cardio bursts, and our unique strengthen-and-stretch method to deliver long, lean muscle and maximum calorie burn.
What do you like about SoHo Broadway?
I have been working in SoHo for 20 years and every day is a treat. The neighborhood is always changing so each day brings a little surprise. New restaurants and clothing stores keep me busy. The people watching is unparalleled. Most importantly, I adore the clients we have in SoHo. They come ready to workout hard with high intensity and are so friendly. We’ve created a wonderful, tight knit community.
What is your favorite SoHo Broadway memory or experience?
My favorite SoHo Broadway memory isn’t just one moment. It’s the incredible journey we’ve been on since 2007. We’ve moved twice due to real estate changes, which means we’ve had three different homes in this neighborhood. What makes SoHo special is that through each move, our loyal clients have followed us, and we continue to welcome new faces through our doors every single day. There’s something special about being part of this community for so many years and watching it evolve while our studio remains a constant for people’s wellness journeys. Each location has brought its own energy, but the heart of Physique 57 has always stayed the same.
If you had 20 minutes, where would you go?
I would head south to Think Coffee for a quick snack and tea. The staff there is always so friendly. It is my go-to spot with friends and staff. Or I would run to Chobani for their yogurt with dark chocolate and pistachio. I have been going there since they opened their doors.
What should we know about you outside of working here? What do you do for fun or are you looking forward to doing?
While I have always been a big fan of group exercise and a buzzing studio, I’ve been a reader my whole life. It is the perfect counterbalance to running a high-energy, high-volume fitness business. I like reading at home, on planes, and on the subway from the UES to SoHo. I usually have a magazine or small book in my handbag. It’s a slight addiction.
