As previously reported, foot traffic in the SoHo Broadway corridor has continued to grow, passing pre-pandemic levels by Summer 2023 and continuing to increase since. It should come as no surprise that retail occupancy is similarly robust. Our last quarterly retail survey, conducted at the end of September 2025, observed a full 87% of district storefronts to be occupied.
This is a tremendous rebound since January 2021, when 35% of district storefronts were observed to be vacant. In fact, this figure is the highest retail occupancy level the Initiative has recorded since we began conducting regular retail surveys in January 2018 (the previous high mark was 85% in November 2018).
The Initiative is proud that the district we serve has reached new heights of health from a retail occupancy perspective. We will continue work to maintain a clean, safe, and functional district to best support these positive trends as the number of stores and foot traffic continues trend upward.
