Resources for Improving Building Environmental Performance

SoHo Broadway District: Free and low-cost resources for building owners, property managers, and design and technical professionals
In an effort to support City and State sustainability initiatives, the SoHo Broadway Initiative has collected a number of educational tools and resources that may be useful for our district’s to property owners and building managers in improving building performance and compliance:
- NYC Accelerator (Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice) offers free technical assistance for building owners, property managers, and developers:
- Contact NYC Accelerator to be matched with an account manager for one-on-one support and guidance and receive expert recommendations to identify projects, financing options, financial incentives, and referrals to service providers
- 30+ online courses focused on building energy law compliance, building decarbonization strategies, and building systems. Free or low-cost.
- NYC DOB Sustainable Buildings NYC resource site focused on Local Law 97
- Urban Green Council offers free, full-day courses for design and building professionals New York State to comply with the many requirements of the NYC and NYS energy codes and design more energy-efficient buildings in the process
- Example upcoming courses include:
- Performance Systems Development (PSD) offers 90-minute webinars ($15 per webinar) on commercial and residential energy code training for design professionals, code enforcement officials, homebuilders, design-build firms, and energy professionals.
- NYSERDA Electrification Training
- NYSERDA offers online Building Electrification Training through Steven Winter Associates consisting of seven modules on topics related to the electrification of space heating in residential and commercial buildings. Free of charge to New York State residents and employees of companies that have an office in New York State.
- New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) State Energy Code Training Directory includes a list of classroom and web-based trainings NYSERDA offers free and low-cost training and resources to municipal code enforcement officials, architects, engineers, building energy professionals, and members of the construction trades—all designed to improve compliance and enforcement of the State Energy Code.
