On Friday April 28th, 2017 the SoHo Broadway Initiative, in partnership with Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and Council Member Margaret Chin, hosted a Quality of Life Forum. The forum provided a platform for elected officials, city agencies, and members of the community to discuss quality of life issues facing the SoHo Broadway district. The forum had a tremendous turnout of over 40 people, including representatives from Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Department of Transportation, Department of Sanitation, Department of Small Business Services, Department of Environmental Protection, the Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs, Community Board 2 and NYPD (Peddler Unit, 1st and 5th Precincts). In addition to SoHo Broadway Initiative Board Members, several residents as well as representatives from office and retail tenants joined the meeting.
While the agenda called for discussion on a variety of quality of life issues, time restricted the discussion to sidewalk vending, food trucks, retail events, and traffic congestion. These topics elicited high participation from members of the audience, creating a productive dialogue that the Initiative hopes to build from with our partner agencies, elected officials and SoHo Broadway constituents.
A special thank you to Schoastic for hosting the event.
