Neighborhood Stories is an oral history project that aims to document our city’s rich history and the changing nature of its neighborhoods through the personal memories and experience of its residents. The stories will be gathered and permanently preserved in the records of the Municipal Archives.
The mission of the project is to provide the public with access to historical and contemporary records, and stories like yours are an important element of that history. You can provide an up-close look at the city’s past and present for future generations.
This inspiring project empowers New Yorkers of all backgrounds to document their own historical narratives of life in the city. It’s easy to participate. Members and followers can record their memories in the comfort of home, via a simple virtual format.
