Karissa Lidstrand joined the SoHo Broadway Initiative in October 2015 as an Outreach Coordinator intern. Hailing from eastern Washington state, in June 2015 she drove cross county from Seattle, Washington to New York. Karissa moved to New York to attend Pratt Institute where she is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Urban Placemaking and Management. Karissa was recently promoted to Program Associate where she will support the Initiative’s communications, public space management and advocacy efforts.
SBI: When did you start working/volunteering with SoHo Broadway Initiative?
KL: I began an internship with the SoHo Broadway Initiative in October of 2015.
SBI: Outside of work – what are your interests and activities?
KL: I enjoy exploring parks and other public spaces, people watching, and adventuring with friends.
SBI: What’s the best part of the next thing you’re doing?
KL: I am starting my third semester of graduate school in August, which will put me closer to having my Masters in Urban Placemaking and Management.
SBI: Where is your favorite hang-out in the SoHo/Downtown area?
KL: Housing Works Bookstore and Café has become a favorite to get coffee or meet up with friends
SBI: What is your preferred mode of transportation in NYC?
KL: I prefer to walk, but if it’s too long of a distance the subway is pretty cool too.
