In New York City, the ongoing flood of unwelcome graffiti, stickers, posters, and fliers is a fact of life, but the SoHo Broadway Initiative does our best to tame the tide. The SoHo Broadway Clean Team scrapes stickers and posters on a daily basis and paints public assets every week.
May’s warm weather provided ideal conditions to utilize the pressure washer provided by our sanitation partner Streetplus to remove graffiti that has accumulated on the sidewalk. Take a look at some before-and-after examples in the images below!:
In addition to the efforts of the Clean Team maintaining public spaces, the City of New York also offers a free graffiti removal service for private property through its Graffiti Free NYC program. In order to participate, property owners must submit this release form. However, the program is often overwhelmed by demand, and graffiti removal can take months to be completed. As a result, we encourage property owners who are able to directly take proactive steps to remove graffiti themselves to ensure the work is done in a timely and effective manner.
We greatly appreciate property owners and property managers who properly maintain their buildings and remove graffiti as soon as it is identified. Together, we can keep the SoHo Broadway district looking its best!
