By The Selects x Cava Life
Visitors will experience and interact with the collections at the exhibition, which is meant to create a thoughtful exploration of social and environmental issues surrounding packaging. The artists have reinterpreted their own stories related to the act of “covering” or “packaging” — and have made them into new products, all intended to be both functional and accessible, bringing high concept art to everyday items. The exhibit allows visitors to appreciate the items that have become artwork in the hands of artists and designers.
The Selects x CAVA LIFE exhibition has three components: The Art Pieces, The Digital Snack and The Bojagi. There will also be a micro-website where guests will find an audio and visual guide for the experience.
THE ART PIECES
The ten fashion designers from The Selects, as well as eight CAVA artists, from different cultures and backgrounds in design, art, photography, architecture and music, have worked under the concept of “Cover”. The result is a collection of art pieces that display each’s reinterpretation of this concept through their individual stories and colors.
THE DIGITAL SNACK
The digital snack zone lets visitors buy 22 digital works from a vending machine, including the sound works from musicians and video files of video artists. The vending machine carries the variety of “digital snacks” – which, when purchase, reveal the download codes for the sound/video files.
THE BOJAGI
The Bojagi is a traditional Korean wrapping cloth commonly made from silk or ramie. Folklore suggests that Koreans believed that wrapping an object protected and brought good luck. Although a seemingly simple square fabric, bojagi can be used to wrap things, or used as a bag or scarf. A collection of 15 artists included painters, graphic designers and photographers had their work printed on a collection of bojagi for the event.
