Sundays on Broadway: Jon Kinzel + Jimena Paz + Vicky Shick – SoHo Broadway Events

Sundays on Broadway and curator Cathy Weis present an evening of performances by Jon Kinzel + Jimena Paz + Vicky Shick.

Jon Kinzel will show video and dance stemming from Pacific Terminus (2019), an ongoing collaborative project with visual artist Bob Ajar/recent performance residency at Telematic. Dancer Simon Courchel will be involved with this showing. In some ways the work represents a sequel to Atlantic Terminus (2016), an installation he presented at The Invisible Dog that rested on a pretext of using his own belongings as a set.

Jimena Paz will present a solo work-in-process.

Over a number of years, Marilyn Maywald-Yahel and Vicky Shick have been exploring nuance, intimacy and extravagance through movement. This segment is a glimpse of that work.

Jon Kinzel has received critical accolades for his work at venues here and abroad, contributed to publications such as SCHIZM Magazine, MR Performance Journal, and PAJ: a journal of performance and art, received generous support from foundations and residency programs – most recently at Telematic Gallery in San Francisco – collaborated and or performed with many choreographers – most recently with Vicky Shick, Yvonne Rainer, Emily Coates, Cathy Weis, Jennifer Miller, and Elena Demyanenko – and taught at several schools.

Jimena Paz was born in Buenos Aires and has lived and worked in Argentina, the United States, Europe and Scandinavia. She is currently working on an epilogue for her solo Yellow, a co-creation with American choreographers Vicky Shick and Ralph Lemon that premiered at the Chocolate Factory in 2017. This new work continues to reflect on ideas of foreignness. She has had the pleasure to work with Lance Gries, Vicky Shick, Susan Rethorst, the Stephen Petronio Company (‘99–‘06), Juliette Mapp, Constanza Macras (Germany), Iris Scaccheri (Argentina), Martha Clake, Liz Gerring, Antonio Ramos, Todd Williams, Burt Barr, Sabrina Farji (Spain-Argentina), Virginie Yassef (France). She was an artist in residence at the Baryshnikov Arts Center (2018) Robert Rauschenberg (2016), and New York Live Arts Studio Series (2013/14), The Yard (2012) and Movement Research (2007/09). A Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, Jimena is on faculty The University of The Arts and Movement Research.

Vicky Shick has been involved with the NYC dance community for four decades. She was a member of the Trisha Brown Company, has worked with many other choreographers and performers, and has taught for Movement Research, the Trisha Brown Company, and at universities and festivals, including in her home town, Budapest. Shick has been making dances since the late 80s and has received awards including two “Bessies” and grants from Gibney, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and the Guggenheim Foundation.
