Movie Screening: Ziggy Stardust Double Feature Picture Show! Mulberry Street Branch NYPL

By Mulberry Street Branch NYPL

Mulberry Street Branch NYPL

Come up to the lab and see what’s on the slab!  Ziggy Stardust!?  That’s right, The Ziggy Stardust Double Feature Picture Show!
Listen to The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975, Rated R, Directed by Jim Sharman) synched with David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (we will only be screening the first 38 minutes of the film) followed by a screening of Labyrinth (1986, 1 hr 41 minutes, rated PG, Directed by Jim Hensen), where David Bowie inhabits another mystical being, Jareth, The Goblin King!
David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Picture Show both developed out of the same early 1970’s cultural zeitgeist and share an uncanny amount of parallels.  What better way to explore these commonalities than by experiencing both brilliant works simultaneously?  Yes, The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack is in itself an incredible album, but for the purposes of this screening the audio from the film will be entirely muted.  Also please note that since The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust has a running time of 38 minutes, only the first 38 minutes of the film will be shown.  At least one previous viewing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show would be highly encouraged, but not mandatory.

Admission is free! All times are approximate. This program is geared for adults. Program contains mature subject matter. The views in the films do not represent the views of The New York Public Library.
