We are

Greetings, from Queer Mountain Showcase @Bookstore Cafe

By Housing Works Bookstore & Cafe

Soho Community Events

School’s back and so are we. This month, we’re thinking about the chain of information that keeps our gay agenda going. The September show’s looking at proteges and guides, mentorship and wisdom, the good (and bad) influences who have showed us the ropes.

This month you will enjoy performances by:

Jeena Bloom,

Tarik Daniels,

Cecilia Gentili,

Suzanne Highland, and

Lauren Ashley Smith.

Jeena Bloom is an NYC based trans female standup comic. She has been featured on Vice, SiriusXM and as a guest on the podcast “Guys We Fucked.”

Tarik Daniels is an actor, comedian and storyteller. He has performed at Gotham Comedy Club and the Stonewall Inn. He is a frequent storyteller for SIngleling and I’m From Driftwood. He is also featured in the Web series Next Level Anxiety and Gays.

Suzanne Highland is a writer and teacher from Florida currently living in New York. She has a BA in English from Florida State University and an MFA from Hunter College, where she won the 2016 Miriam Weinberg Richter Award. She has also been awarded prizes and fellowships from the Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts, the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley, and the Vermont Studio Center, and she was a recipient of a Brooklyn Poets Fellowship in the summer of 2018. She teaches critical writing to public high school students as well as composition at Hunter College, and she is a mentor and teaching artist with Urban Word NYC.

As the the Head Writer of the critically acclaimed late night show, “The Rundown with Robin Thede,” Lauren Ashley Smith is only the second black woman to ever hold that title on a late night show. Lauren’s other writing and producing credits include “Best Week Ever,” “Fashion Queens,” and “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.” As a comedian, Lauren performs routinely at the Magnet Theater in New York City and is the former host of the Zagat webseries, “Chefs Eating Tacos.” Lauren has appeared on VH1.com, The Scene, Refinery29, and the Netflix original series, “The Characters.” Plus, her voice has probably kept you company through the speakers on your TV or radio. For a writer, she really could have done a better job on this bio.

Greetings, from Queer Mountain is a themed comedy, prose, and storytelling showcase created by Micheal Foulk and Ralphie Hardesty. The show is currently running in Austin, New Orleans, and now New York! The mission of the show is to provide more stage time for the LGBTQIA voices that are often left out of heteronormative art spaces and to foster the growth and acceptance of new voices in writing, comedy, and performance.

Curated by Kyle Dacuyan & Lorena Russi, & hosted by Lorena Russi.
