Greetings, from Queer Mountain ‘Vacation’ – LGBTQIA Storytelling, Poetry & Music

Our regular multidisciplinary LGBTQ+ storytelling & performance showcase, starring some of NYC’s most talented queers – Soho Community Events

As it’s August, this installment’s theme is VACATION.We might hear about a significant vacation from childhood, or a trip or journey that made a big impact. Maybe an absence/sabbatical from school or work. travel for a specific festival or celebration. Perhaps a story, experience, or piece of work inspired by time spent with family or friends that was life-altering, or even a dream destination for a trip.

Performers include Joanna C. Valente, Alex Cheves, & more to be announced!

Joanna C. Valente is a ghost who lives in Brooklyn, New York, and is the author of Sirs & Madams, The Gods Are Dead, Marys of the Sea, Xenos, Sexting Ghosts, and No(body). They are the editor of A Shadow Map: Writing By Survivors of Sexual Assault (2017), and received a MFA in writing at Sarah Lawrence College. Joanna is also the founder of Yes, Poetry, as well as the senior managing editor for Luna Luna Magazine and an editor for Civil Coping Mechanisms. Joanna has been featured in Brooklyn Magazine, them., Prelude, BUST, Columbia Journal, Electric Literature, Joyland, Tarpaulin Sky, The Feminist Wire, Spork Press, Ravishly, The Rumpus, VICE, The Brooklyn Rail, VIDA, The Huffington Post, among others. Joanna also currently teaches courses at Brooklyn Poets. In addition, they have spoken or given lectures for/at SUNY Purchase College, Sarah Lawrence College, the National Eating Disorder Association, AWP, Brooklyn Book Festival, Shout Your Abortion, Ravishly, Luna Luna Magazine, Monstering Magazine, Winter Tangerine, and more.

Alexander Cheves is a New York City-based writer whose work has appeared in Vice, Out Magazine, Pride, Gayety, Project Q, them., Fenuxe Magazine, and others. He answers reader-submitted sex questions on his blog, “The Beastly Ex-Boyfriend”, and writes the gay sex and dating column Sexy Beast for The Advocate.
