Creative Sculpture Workshop-Women Sculptors and the Female Figure

By Mulberry Street Branch NYPL

Creative Sculpture Workshop – Women Sculptors and the Female Figure: Creators and Creations with Barbara Lubliner

Sculptor Barbara Lubliner will share about figurative sculptors that have inspired her, giving highlights of historic, famous, as well as some little-known women sculptors. She will give an overview of sculptures depicting female figures, and women through history to set the stage for participants to experiment making their own expressive figure.

New York sculptor, Barbara Lubliner moves fluidly from performance art to works on paper to sculpture both large and small. Her art practice is a confluence of art and life. Each twist and turn is driven by the desire to play with current life concerns as the jumping off point for insightful art.

Examples of Lubliner’s series about the experience of living life in a female body can be seen in the Brooklyn Museum’s online feminist art base. In this work the figure is altered to express emotions, ideas, and complex associations.

This class is for Adults 18+. No experience with art is necessary, open to beginners through experienced artists.
