Since the start of the pandemic and shelter-in-place orders, the number of people visiting SoHo Broadway to work or shop has greatly decreased. However, as New York City continues to reopen, more and more people are coming to the district every day. Thankfully, there are many modes of transportation available for those coming here:
Since the pandemic started, subway ridership in the city fell by almost 90% of what it had been prior. Yet, recently ridership of the system has risen—last week by 75%. The SoHo Broadway district is blessed with many nearby subway stations: Broadway-Lafayette (B/D/F/M/6), Prince Street (R/W), Spring Street (6), and Canal Street (J/N/Q/R/W/Z/6). The Subway is currently closed 1 a.m.-5 a.m. for cleaning. Masks are required. If you need one, ask at the station booth. You can also look for new vending machines with personal protective equipment in some stations.
SoHo Broadway is served by the M1 and M55 buses, as well as the M21 on Houston Street. The SIM1, SIM34 from Staten Island also stop at Broadway south of Houston. During COVID-19, board through the rear door if you can. Starting in August, you’ll see new protective barriers around local bus operators. When these are installed, you’ll board using the front door and will pay the fare as usual.
SoHo Broadway is served directly by bike lanes on Prince Street, Spring Street, and Grand Street. Bicycle parking can be found on all four corners of Prince Street and Broadway, behind the subway entrances. Download the 2020 NYC DOT Bike Map here. The extensive CitiBike bike share program offers annual memberships for $179; day passes and single-ride memberships are also available. Stations near SoHo Broadway include Lafayette Street & Jersey Street, Mercer Street & Spring Street, Cleveland Place & Spring Street, Howard Street & Centre Street, Lispenard Street & Broadway, and Grand Street & Greene Street.
