Support Local Businesses and Staff During the COVID-19 Crisis

SoHo Broadway Community: How you can help the small business community and its workers

With the PAUSE measures in place to help stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus, retail within the Broadway corridor of SoHo has ground to a halt. As more workers and businesses are affected by the current pandemic situation, the livelihoods of many who help make our district so special are at risk. Below are some ways to help these businesses and workers – both within the district, but also NYC in general – stay afloat in these troubling times.

Housing Works: Here is a list of ways you can support Housing Works and their services during this PAUSE period.

Museum of Ice Cream: MOIC is now on Caviar! For every pint they deliver, one will be delivered to a hospitals around NYC to healthcare workers.

McNally Jackson: Longtime neighborhood independent bookseller McNally Jackson may be physically closed, but they are still taking orders online and delivering, be sure to ship local!

Lure: Lure Fishbar is currently hosting a GoFundMe relief campaign that people can give donations to provide money to their employees.

Balthazar: Like Lure, Balthazar is also hosting a GoFundMe relief fund for their employees.

Think Coffee: Think Coffee is also running a GoFundMe employee relief fund.

Sabon: During this time, Sabon is selling a #SabonSelfCare kit and for every kit purchased they will be donating one to a healthcare worker.

Low-Income Artist/Freelancer Relief Fund: This fund is seeking donations to provide support for low-income, BIPOC, trans/GNC/NB/Queer artists and freelancers whose livelihoods are being effected by this pandemic in NYC. 

Small Business Staff Fundraisers: This document compiles ongoing fundraisers for staff of NYC small businesses impacted by the crisis.

One Fair Wage: An emergency fund has been created that provides cash assistance to low-wage service workers.

Freelancers’ Relief Fund- offers financial assistance of up to $1,000 per freelance household to cover lost income and essential expenses not covered by government relief programs. Apply.

Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation COVID-19 Relief Fund – donate, FAQ/info on how to apply for funds

Help Amazon Warehouse Workers Exposed to COVID-19– This support fund has been set up by volunteer organizers working with Amazonians United NYC, an independent worker-led organizing committee with members in Amazon’s DBK1 facility in Queens, NY. Funds will be managed by the Organizing Committee and dispersed to members to compensate them for lost pay – donate – email: amazoniansunitednyc@gmail.com

Gothamist: The news site Gothamist released their own guide to donating, volunteering and contributing in NYC during the Coronavirus pandemic.
