This event aims to create opportunities for community connections, and greater queer prominence within STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Improved LGBTQIA+ visibility ensures that the next STEM generation has LGBTQ+ role models, and helps the current generation know that they’re not alone.

Micah Savin (they, them) – Clinical Psychology PhD at Fordham University & first-generation queer Native American. Savin is a National Science FoundationGraduate Research Fellow and Ford Foundation Fellowship ProgramHonorable Mention. Their National Science Foundation project investigates the neurocognitive implications of minority stress among LGBTQ culturally/linguistically diverse adults.
Cecina Babich Morrow (she, her) – Helen Fellow at the American Museum of Natural History. She works with Mary Blair in the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation on the open-source species distribution modeling software Wallace. Follow her on Twitter.
Alex Moore – Postdoctoral Fellow at the American Museum of Natural History conducting scientific research with a focus on biodiversity conservation, and adjunct professor in Columbia University. PhD from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, focusing on how predator-prey interactions impact the health and functioning of wetland ecosystems.
Greg Youdan (he, him) – PhD student in Kinesiology at Teachers College, Columbia University. Youdan is an instructor/lecturer in the Department of Biobehavioral Sciences and is the lab manager of the Neurorehabilitation Research Laboratory, where his research focuses on Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and stroke. Claudia Astorino (she, her) – Evolutionary biologist and biological anthropologist Ph.D. student at CUNY Graduate Center, and an intersex activist raising awareness about intersex human rights issues. Astorino is co-founder of the NYC Annual Intersex Awareness Day and former Associate Director of the US chapter of Organization Intersex International. She is a committee member of gAyAPA – the organization for LGBTQQIAA physical anthropologists in the U.S. Follow her on Twitter.
Sara Van Eerde (she/her, they/them) – MSc from NYU Silver School of Social Work. While at Muhlenberg College, Sara pursued a Psychology major and a self-designed Gender and Sexuality studies major. At Global Kids, Sara provides one-on-one counseling, co-facilitates the Human Rights Activist Project, and leads an LGBTQ+ and Allies support group and a Wellness Club. In February, she served as Global Kids’ representative and “Youth for the Sustainable Development Goals” scholar. Sara focuses on sustainable development goal #5: Gender Equality and how that is necessary to bring into any conversation about equality and environmentalism.
