Oliver Stone’s ten-chapter documentary, Untold History of the United States, represents a great accomplishment by a major figure of American social and political cinema. Predictably, its audiences have been limited. Stone effectively challenged the positive interpretations of United State government’s foreign policy in the twentieth century. Through closely interrelated masterful cinema and incisive narrative, Stone shows another perspective. Untold History reveals how the US government generally failed to take actions to deter the spread of fascism before World War II, and in the post-WW II period did little to help build a peaceful, democratic world.
