Join us for an in person talk with documentary photographer and filmmaker Joshua Charow and Lower Manhattan Loft Tenants co-founder Chuck DeLaney, moderated by Westwood Gallery Executive Director and co-founder Margarite Almeida.
Lower Manhattan Loft Tenants was founded in the late 1970s and was responsible for passing Article 7-C of the Multiple Dwelling Law, otherwise known as the Loft Law.
The Gallery Talk is on the occasion of the exhibition Loft Law: Photographs by Joshua Charow, the first solo exhibition for New York-based documentary photographer and filmmaker Joshua Charow (b. 1998), curated by James Cavello.
The exhibition includes forty photographs by Charow and eighteen works of art by eleven of the artists featured in the photographs: Carmen Cicero, Loretta Dunkelman, Betsy Kaufman, Kimiko Fujimura, Joseph Marioni, Carolyn Oberst, Marsha Pels, Gilda Pervin, Steve Silver, Mike Sullivan, and Jeff Way.
The exhibition will be on view May 16 – July 13, 2024.
Established in 1995 in NYC by co-founders James Cavello and Margarite Almeida, Westwood Gallery NYC is dedicated to recontextualizing art history, supporting the local Bowery Arts community, and rescuing, preserving, and archiving the works of overlooked artist estates. In 2016, the gallery moved into its current space at 262 Bowery, dedicated to exhibiting the internationally known and historically overlooked artists that have called New York City’s Bowery neighborhood their studios and homes. Recently, the gallery has expanded its program to include veteran New York artists working in all media.
