The Jewish Family on TV: The Goldbergs at Museum at Eldridge Street-1 of 7 series in March

By Museum at Eldridge Street

7 session class with Museum at Eldridge Street and Barry Feldman

The Goldbergs, a popular radio and television show airing from the 1930s to 50s, revolved around Molly Goldberg, a lovable but meddling matriarch, her family and neighbors. A careful viewing of the episodes reveals insights into an ethnic family assimilating to American culture. This class will discuss the work of Goldbergs actress Gertrude Berg, as well as patterns of ethnic assimilation depicted by the show. Selected show episodes will be viewed weekly followed by class discussion.

Barry Feldman is an educator, urban historian, and licensed New York City tour guide. He leads tours for the Museum at Eldridge Street and the Lower East Side Conservancy, and teaches many adult education classes on New York City and Jewish history.

Class meets Mondays
March 5, 12, 19, 26, April 2, 9
