For a few weeks after the Christmas holiday, New York City sidewalks become cluttered with Christmas trees waiting to be picked up. The trees can get blown around, creating unsafe conditions for pedestrians. This year, the Initiative’s Clean Team, in coordination with DSNY’s Manhattan District 2, corralled any tree left on Broadway and moved them to central pick up locations on the bus stop bulb outs at Spring and Grand Street.
All collected trees awaited DSNY pick up for mulching. Sure enough, DSNY came by on January 13th (and then again a few days later) with its tree collection truck so that SoHo Broadway’s trees could be mulched instead of heading to the landfill. Thank you to the men and women of the Clean Team and DSNY’s Manhattan District 2 for working so closely together to keep Broadway looking its best.
