5 Questions with Matthew Morowitz

SBI: When did you start working with SoHo Broadway Initiative?

MM: I began my internship at SoHo Broadway Initiative on June 3, 2019. I was interested in working at the Initiative as I am currently a graduate student at Parsons in urban design and I wanted to learn firsthand how a BID works to maintain and improve the neighborhood where it was established.

SBI: Outside of work, what are your interests and activities?

MM: Reading, yoga, and I try and attend different Meetup groups when I can.

SBI: What’s the best part of the next thing you’re doing?

MM: Gaining a different perspective on the management and development of the urban environment than what I had previously been exposed to through my schoolwork and other professional experience.

SBI: What is your favorite hang-out spot in the SoHo/Downtown area?

MM: I had not spent too much time hanging out in SoHo before this internship, as I mainly came down here to shop, but since starting I’ve really grown to enjoy the atmosphere of the Housing Works Bookstore & Café.

SBI: What is your preferred mode of transportation in NYC?

MM: The subway; I live off the F so it’s easy for me to get to SoHo.
